The \u201cSustainable Food and Agricultural Education at Mgera Primary School\u201d project in Iringa, Tanzania, has now come to an end. The project was funded by Banco Sabadell and carried out in partnership with the Esperanza y Alegr\u00eda Foundation, with the participation of the school community.<\/p>\n

As part of the project, the school has established a vegetable garden covering approximately 1,000 m\u00b2, equipped with drip irrigation and 30 vertical gardens. In addition, 26 avocado trees have been planted, which will continue to grow over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n

The vegetables grown in the garden are already being used to supplement meals for the school\u2019s more than 500 students and teachers, twice a week. When there is surplus produce, it is sold to the local community, with the proceeds used to maintain the garden.<\/p>\n\n

The project has involved significant participation from students, teachers and families. Throughout these months, they have learned about and taken part in activities such as preparing the land, planting, caring for the crops and harvesting. Families were particularly involved in planting the avocado trees.<\/p>\n\n

A new school kitchen has also been built, with four cooking stoves, a storage room and a washing area, allowing meals to be prepared in better conditions.<\/p>\n\n

On 22 June, the Ambassador of Spain to Tanzania, Paloma Serra, visited the school together with representatives of Agr\u00f3nomos Sin Fronteras to see the garden and learn about the improvements carried out.<\/p>\n\n

The project may have come to an end, but the garden will continue to operate and remain part of daily life at the school. Vegetable production will continue and, over time, the avocado trees will also begin to bear fruit.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to this project, the school now has greater access to fresh food and a space where students can learn about agriculture through hands-on experience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
