In the Maasai community of Mgega, located in the rural district of Iringa (Tanzania), more than 500 people were facing daily challenges: lack of access to safe drinking water, precarious classrooms for over 90 children, and limited nutrition, with high levels of malnutrition.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to the support of INECO<\/strong>, the Agr\u00f3nomos Sin Fronteras Foundation, in partnership with the Esperanza y Alegr\u00eda Foundation<\/strong> and our local partner Assisting Small Farmers Foundation<\/strong>, has implemented a comprehensive project that is already transforming the lives of this community.<\/p>\n\n

\n

One of the most important achievements has been ensuring access to clean water throughout the year. A 150-meter-deep well was drilled<\/strong>, solar pumps and a 10,000-liter tank<\/strong> were installed. Today, the community has distribution points for households and a dedicated point for livestock. A watering trough was also built, which has improved hygiene and reduced the risks of diseases associated with contaminated water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the field of education, we built two new classrooms<\/strong>, adapted to the local climate and equipped with over 40 desks. This new space provides a safe and dignified environment for learning and has allowed students to study under better conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Improving nutrition was also a priority. A 240-square-meter greenhouse with drip irrigation<\/strong> was built, enabling the cultivation of fruits and vegetables throughout the year. In addition, women from the community received training in greenhouse management, agricultural techniques, and nutrition. This has not only diversified family diets but also strengthened women\u2019s role in local development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project also included training in water management, agriculture, and financial education<\/strong>, with a special focus on the leadership of women and young farmers. The creation of women\u2019s groups has strengthened community organization and generated spaces for collaboration and empowerment.<\/p>\n\n

All this was made possible thanks to the commitment of the INECO volunteer team<\/strong>, whose participation was key in designing infrastructures, providing technical support, and implementing sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n\n
