Enrique Moriones Alonso

Dr. Enrique Moriones finished his studies of Agricultural Engineering in July 1986 and in July 1991 defended his thesis for the title of Doctor of Agricultural Engineering in aspects of plant virus pathology.
From October 1991 to May 1995 he was in charge of the Plant Virology Laboratory of the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (Cabrils, Barcelona). Since May 1995 he has been a researcher at the State Agency of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), with the rank of Research Professor since July 2008. Since May 1995, he has directed the Plant Virology Laboratory at the former Experimental Station “La Mayora” (EELM) of the CSIC, which is currently part of the Institute of Subtropical and Mediterranean Horticulture “La Mayora” (IHSM), joint between the CSIC and the University of Malaga (UMA) and based at the Teatinos Campus of the UMA. Between July 2007 and March 2022 he has been Director first of the EELM and later of the IHSM. He has supervised 11 doctoral theses and has published more than 140 original research papers in scientific journals of impact. His research focuses on the understanding of plant virus epidemics affecting horticultural crops, their evolution and the search for more sustainable control strategies.
