Gabriel Guzmán Uribe

Dr. Gabriel Guzmán obtained his degree in Economics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1960. The following year, in 1961, he completed a postgraduate program in Business Administration at the London School of Economics. Continuing his education, in 1962, he spent a year at the University of Bordeaux, where he studied Business Administration. In 1974 he obtained a PhD in Economics from the University of Bilbao. His thesis focused on the Economic Development Thinking of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL), and this academic achievement was recognized with the Planeta Economics Award in 1975.
He became a civil servant by competitive examination in the Technical Corps of Autonomous Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1979 and 1982, he held the position of Director of Scientific-Technical Cooperation at the Institute for Ibero-American Cooperation. Subsequently, he held the position of Secretary General of the same organization during 1983. Between 1990 and 1996 he was Director of the NatWest Foundation. Then, he assumed the position of Technical Advisor of the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID) from 1996 to 2003. He served as Advisor and member of the Board of Trustees of the AMREF Foundation from 2003 to 2020.
He has been part of the Agrónomos Sin Fronteras Foundation since 2016 and currently holds the position of President of that organization.
